A Bequest to Further Good Work
For Ron Weiss, giving to the Virtua Foundation is a personal endeavor that supports an organization he believes in while honoring his upbringing.
"It all goes back to my parents, Ed and Annette Weiss," he said. "I was always taught that you give back. That's the right thing to do."
Mr. and Mrs. Weiss volunteered at Virtua Marlton for many years, and when they needed medical care, the Weiss family has always turned to Virtua.
"The dedication and the people at Virtua are real. They are good, caring people and you want to associate yourself with people like that and an organization like that," said Weiss.
Weiss has been a strong partner of the Virtua Foundation for more than a decade, sponsoring the annual McDonneI Golf Classic and serving as the presenting sponsor of the Virtua Gala with his company, Corporate Synergies Group, Inc.
In 2009, he made a personal commitment to the Virtua Foundation with a planned gift.
"When we sponsor the golf outing and the Gala that is in today's dollars. But, through a planned gift, I was able to give a donation which would have a much larger impact," explained Weiss.
He chose to include Virtua Foundation in his will and, upon his passing, an unrestricted, leadership level gift will support the area of greatest need at Virtua. In recognition of his planned gift, the cafeteria at Virtua Voorhees has been named The Ron P. Weiss Dining Hall.
"My father was an only child, and l am his only son and I don't have children, so that's a way for our family name to live on," said Weiss, who chose the dining hall for his recognition because it is where families often gather.
Establishing a lasting legacy in honor of his parents is an immeasurable accomplishment that Weiss is honored to do. But, he said, it isn't about the amount of money he is gifting to Virtua. It's about giving back in any Way you can when you believe in a good cause.
"You can be just as effective in helping an organization without having to donate large sums of money," said Weiss. You can give your time and help raise awareness and raise valuable donations. It's not just about the financially fortunate people. Everybody can do their part."
